"40 years this year – bloody hell might have a party."
In a nutshell, what does your business do?
"We design and manufacture Sheepskin and Leather, clothing, handbags, lifestyle products and accessories."
What do you like most about your job?
"The variety. i.e. Meeting people, creating beautiful products, travelling and supplying some of the world’s leading designers and retailers/brands."
What’s the best thing about working at Owen Barry?
"The team – a fantastic team who are keeping the heritage of sheepskin & leather manufacturing alive in Somerset."
How did you feel when you found out that you’d won the Mendip International Business of the Year award?
"I felt honoured and proud that all the hard work of the OB team had been recognised by a group other than the fashion industry (where we do receive design awards fairly frequently)"
What’s been the best thing about winning your award?
"Recognition both locally and further afield, the award certainly endorses our abilities and gives credibility with new customers and suppliers."
What impact has winning had on the business?
"Very hard to quantify outside of the work place, but for the team it has given us a huge sense of pride, working for one of the Best Companies in Mendip. The team know they make a lovely product – but for their local peers to acknowledge that means a lot.."
Would you recommend entering the awards?
"YES of course. If you are proud of your business and its achievements – then enter."
Do you have any advice for anyone considering entering the awards?
"Keep it local – it is a Mendip award so I tried to ensure that the judges realised how important the Mendip links, skills & heritage were to our business"
